How to Get New Smart PAN Card

Are your still having paper based PAN Card or PAN Card with very old design? Then it’s time to upgrade your PAN Card with new SMART PAN Card as Income Tax Department has made official changes to PAN Card Design.

The Income Tax Department (ITD) has modified the existing design of the PAN Card and e–PAN Card to include an Enhanced QR Code. This makes the PAN Card more secure and temper proof. The new policy goes into effect on July 7, 2018. PAN cards are now being printed in accordance with the new design criteria approved by ITD.

New Features in New Smart PAN Card Design

  1. Enhanced Quick Response (QR) Code will contain additional information of Photograph & Signature of PAN applicant apart from existing information i.e.
    • PAN,
    • Name,
    • Father’s Name/Mother’s Name,
    • Date of Birth/Incorporation/Formation.
  2. The details will be digitally signed & coded on the Enhanced QR Code.
  3. Position of Photograph, Signature, Hologram and dimension of QR Code have changed.
  4. The Enhanced QR code will also be provided in the e-PAN Card issued to the PAN applicants.

The enhanced QR code must be readable by a certain mobile app available on the Google Play Store. For reading the Enhanced QR Code, an auto focus camera with a resolution of 12 Mega Pixels or above is suggested. The key phrase for searching Mobile App on Google Play is “Enhanced QR Code Reader for PAN Card.”

What documents are required for upgrading to New Smart PAN Card?

In documents you have to provide following:

  • Identity Proof
  • Date Of Birth Proof
  • Address Proof

Valid Proof Of Identity documents to upgrade to Smart PAN Card (any one):

  1. Driving License
  2. Aadhaar Card
  3. Voter ID or Election Card
  4. Passport

Valid Proof Of Date Of Birth documents to upgrade to Smart PAN Card Design (any one):

  1. Aadhaar Card
  2. Mark sheet of recognised board
  3. Passport
  4. Driving License
  5. Voter ID or Election Card
  6. Birth certificate issued by the municipal authority

Valid Proof Of Address documents to upgrade to Smart PAN Card Design (any one):

  1. Aadhaar Card
  2. Driving License
  3. Voter ID or Election Card
  4. Passport
  5. Passport of spouse (husband / wife)
  6. Bank account statement (less than 3 months old)
  7. Landline Telephone or Broadband connection bill (less than 3 months old)
  8. Credit card statement (less than 3 months old)
  9. Water Bill (less than 3 months old)
  10. Consumer gas connection card or book or piped gas bill (less than 3 months old)
  11. Post Office passbook having address of the applicant
  12. Latest property tax assessment order
  13. Electricity Bill (less than 3 months old)
  14. Property Registration Document

Steps to Apply Online

Step 1: Fill Form

Open following Application Form by clicking on below button:

After opening form, fill required details.

  1. Enter applicant’s existing Old PAN Card Number which you want New design for.
  2. Select existing PAN Card proof.
  3. If you want also want to make changes in your existing PAN Card data like Name, Birth Date or Address then you can also do it along with this Application for New Smart Design. For that select “yes” in “Do you want to make correction/changes in PAN Card along with Smart PAN update?”
  4. If you do not want any changes then keep “no” selected by default in “Do you want to make correction/changes in PAN Card along with Reprint?” Then fill up form with data same like you have in your Old PAN Card.
  5. Now complete the remaining form.
  6. After completing the form, submit the form.

STEP 2: Upload Documents

On submitting the form, you will be redirected to Verify Details Page. Verify all details that you entered If you made mistake while entering data then you can go back and edit the form details by clicking on “Edit Form”.

If all data entered is correct then you can proceed next to Upload Documents section.

You have to upload documents as per proofs selected in previous Form. If you have existing pdf then you can upload that also. You can upload file in any format like images OR you can just take photo from your mobile camera and upload.

STEP 3: Payment

After uploading all your documents, submit them. On submission of documents, you will be directed to the payment page. Payment can be done via many online methods like debit card, credit card, Netbanking, wallets like Paytm, Freecharge, Google Pay, UPI etc.

On successful payment, your application will be sent for processing. Generally PAN New Design Application takes about 15 to 25 working days. However, you will also receive PAN Card soft copy with New Design i.e. e-PAN Card in email mentioned in the Form that you filled in the first Step-1 in about 10 to 12 days.
